The Overpass Lima music festival in Peru was suddenly canceled on the eve of its opening. The organizers blamed Kai (EXO) and Minho (SHINee) for "refusing to perform despite receiving their full pay", causing outrage among fans and demanding clarification of the incident.
Overpass Lima â one of the most anticipated music events in Peru â was scheduled to take place on September 11 with the participation of a series of famous Kpop artists such as Kai (EXO), Minho (SHINee), Youngjae and Mark Tuan (GOT7), and girl group fromis_9. However, just a few days before the event, The Hub organizers suddenly announced the postponement due to "external factors", without giving a specific time for the new performance.
By October 8, the event was officially canceled altogether. The announcement left fans confused and disappointed, especially those who had purchased tickets and prepared for the trip months in advance.
In the show cancellation notice, the organizers said the main reason was that Kai (EXO) could not participate in the program as originally planned. After that, Minho (SHINee) and Youngjae (GOT7) also withdrew from the event, making it impossible for the program to continue.
Notably, the lawyer representing the organizers appeared on Peruvian television and made a shocking statement: "Kai and Minho received 100% of the salary but refused to perform. They took the money and ran away." This statement immediately caused a storm in the international fan community, especially EXO-L and Shawol - those who always follow and support their idols.
The organizers had promised to refund the audience after the event was canceled. However, up to now, many people have not received their money back. In response to the wave of complaints, Peruvian authorities stepped in and fined the organizers for not complying with event organization regulations and were accused of violating consumer rights.
Blaming the artist without clear evidence, combined with the delay in refunding, has seriously damaged the reputation of the organizers. Many viewers believe that this is an act of "blaming" to avoid financial responsibility.
Immediately after the information was spread, Kai and Minho's fan community simultaneously sent emails, petitions and reports to the management companies SM Entertainment and HYBE Labels, asking for the artists' protection and clarification of the incident. Many people believe that the organizers' public accusations of the artists "taking the money and running away" is an act of defamation and can lead to serious legal consequences.
Currently, the management companies have not yet given an official response. However, fans are expecting a clear statement to protect the artist's image and clarify the accusations from the organizers.
The Overpass Lima incident was not only a shock to K-pop fans in South America, but also a warning to international event organizers. The lack of transparency in management, ambiguous communication and unfounded blame on artists not only damaged the reputation of the organizers but also seriously affected the relationship between artists and fans globally.
While waiting for an official response from the relevant parties, the fan community is still closely following the developments of the incident and demanding a satisfactory explanation. With what has happened, Overpass Lima will probably become one of the most memorable "show-organizing dramas" of Kpop in 2025.
