After the incident of a 4-month-old baby falling into the Xeo Ro canal, Ms. Le Thi Kieu (26 years old, An Giang) tried to overcome the pain and start her life again with the desire to raise her children to grow up.
It has been more than half a month since the incident of a 4-month-old baby falling into the canal and leaving occurred, grief still envelops the small village along the river. In the temporary house, Ms. Le Thi Kieu â a young mother who lost her child â is trying every day to overcome the tragedy and find peace for her life and the other three children.
After the incident, Ms. Kieu and her children moved to her grandmother to live. The old house where the heartbreaking incident happened was only about 10m² wide, located under the bridge, now empty. "Now my mother and daughter are back to live with my grandmother to be less afraid. It's been ten years here, and the back of the house has been renovated. Although life is still difficult, I try every day to stabilize and start again," she shared with a sigh.
The loss was so great that she once fell into a crisis. However, the young mother still got up, putting all her faith in the future of her children. "I plan to send the children back to school, send the youngest to kindergarten and then learn nail arts. I want to do it myself, take care of my own children. If anyone loves me and teaches me for a few days, I'm very grateful," she said, her eyes full of determination.
What makes Ms. Kieu the saddest is not the material difficulties, but the rumors after the incident. "Many people say that you are evil, why don't you report to the police immediately and call the YouTuber. But that's not the case. At that time, I panicked, my mind was blank, I could only sit and cry, my mouth kept apologizing to me," she recalled chokingly.
Pitying her situation, neighbors often visit and chat to encourage her, afraid that she will think about it. "Seeing that I was sad, the neighbors kept laughing at me, afraid that I would think stupidly. Sometimes I don't want to laugh, but people love me, try to make me happy, I try to laugh too," she said, tears rolling down her face.
Regarding the amount of support from donors, Ms. Kieu said that all of them have been deposited into the savings book according to the instructions of the local government. "I sent everything in the book, only using the profit to buy milk and food for my children. As for the principal money to save later, the older ones need it. Many people called, sent a little, told me not to be sad, try to live well, I am very grateful," she shared emotionally.
Family members also said that since the day her child died, Ms. Kieu has become quiet. However, she still tries to clean, cook, and take care of her children as a way to keep her spirits up. "Now I just hope to be healthy, learn a job, go to work, and raise my children to grow up. That's enough," she said quietly.
Earlier, on the morning of October 20, when she woke up, Ms. Kieu found her 4-month-old son disappearing from the bed. Her house is located close to the edge of the Xeo Ro canal, the intersection between the Xang canal and the Tuyet Bridge. Receiving the news, the functional forces of An Bien commune coordinated with the An Giang rescue team to organize a search for many hours. By the afternoon of October 21, the baby was discovered more than 1.5km from home, making everyone who heard the news sad.
Currently, Ms. Kieu is still supported by the local government, regularly visiting and encouraging her spirit. The life ahead is still difficult, but the mother has chosen to face and continue to live for her children. In a small house by the quiet canal, the sound of children laughing and joking every day became the biggest source of encouragement, helping her believe that after a storm, life still has room for light and hope.
