Among countless inspirational stories, the life journey of "tin soldier" Thien Nhan (born in 2006) still moves the public. Recently, the image of Thien Nhan at the age of 19 suddenly spread on social networks, making many people surprised by the increasingly handsome and mature appearance of the young man.
Currently, Thien Nhan is a second-year student majoring in Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence at VinUni University (Hanoi). In the photos shared by his adoptive mother Mai Anh (journalist Tran Mai Anh), he has a bright face and a gentle smile, making many people clearly feel the confidence and determination in his eyes.
Posts about Thien Nhan quickly received thousands of interactions. Netizens left many comments praising his maturity and change in appearance: "The tin soldier is now so smart and brave!", "Love you, having mom Coi by your side is the best thing", "Thien Nhan is so handsome!", "Admire the mother's heart", "Wish you always healthy and happy", "You are kind and handsome, just like your name".
Ms. Mai Anh regularly updates Thien Nhan's situation from studying to health through social media channels. In early August 2025, she shared: "He has completed his first year, studying all the subjects without any problems. Now he is resting to prepare for his second year. This year, he will not stay in the dormitory anymore to make room for the first year students."
Thanks to his excellent academic record and outstanding achievements throughout three years of high school, Thien Nhan was awarded an 85% scholarship by VinUni, creating conditions for him to continue pursuing his passion and dream of researching AI. He expressed: "Living with one leg, I still go to school regularly every day, motivated by my passion for learning and the desire to research artificial intelligence. I believe that AI can change healthcare and improve the lives of many people, just like my life was saved by medical advances. My goal is to create AI solutions that help sick children have a better chance of living. Because I was a sick child myself, I understand their needs and want to bring practical solutions."
Thien Nhan was born in Quang Nam (now Da Nang). When he was just over a week old, he was abandoned in the forest, missing a leg and some body parts, and his whole body was covered with ants. Miraculously, he survived and was discovered by a forest ranger who took him to the emergency room in time.
Thien Nhan's story quickly spread across the country, touching the hearts of the community. Journalist Tran Mai Anh decided to adopt him and take him to Hanoi to care for him. From there, a long journey of treatment, recovery and development for the "tin soldier" began.
Thanks to the support from the community, Thien Nhan has undergone multiple reconstructive surgeries abroad under the hands of the world's leading doctors. This journey not only brings a miracle to a life but also inspires the charity project "Thien Nhan and Friends" - a program that provides free surgery opportunities to thousands of disabled children across Vietnam.
