The image of Chau Viet Cuong in a maid costume caused a stir on social networks, causing many people to question whether he had "changed careers" after being released from prison, attracting many mixed opinions.
on social networks, a series of images of singer Chau Viet Cuong in a maid costume appeared at a temple, causing the online community to wave. This image quickly received many mixed comments, many people expressed their frustration because this is an activity with spiritual elements. The bronze maid ceremony is an important part of Vietnam's intangible cultural heritage, recognized by UNESCO as "Vietnamese practice of worshipping the Mother of the Three Palaces".
Some netizens expressed: "There should be thoughts to the Ministry of Culture and the General Secretary about this spiritual issue. The culture of Vietnam needs to be managed, licensed and have a practice certificate. But culture is the foundation of the nation, but it is not okay to let them be ignorant and play the infinity yin religion, it is too smearing." Some other comments were written briefly but expressed dissatisfaction: "Blasphemous", "Now everyone can serve", "Sit down and watch you, stupidly you throw garlic in your mouth", "Is there a 'garlic' servant"...
The incident attracted even more attention because Chau Viet Cuong was the focus of public opinion with a serious case a few years ago. In January 2025, he was released from prison ahead of schedule after serving more than 6 years for the crime of causing serious consequences to others. The case occurred in March 2018, when Chau Viet Cuong and a group of friends used banned substances that led to hallucinations. During the rage, he thought that a fellow user, Ms. H., was "possessed", so he performed the ritual by inserting more than 30 large cloves of garlic into the victim's mouth, causing her to die due to complete respiratory obstruction.
At the first-instance trial in March 2019, the People's Court of Hanoi sentenced Chau Viet Cuong to 13 years in prison for the crime of causing serious consequences to others according to Clause 2, Article 123 of the Criminal Code. However, in the appellate court, the Trial Panel accepted part of the appeal of the defendant and the victim's family, reducing the sentence to 11 years in prison.
When he was released from prison, Chau Viet Cuong once committed to the public: "I promise to be an honest person, do business properly and will bring the most positive energy to spread to everyone. I promise to be a decent and decent person, not to be depraved like in the old days." This promise once received sympathy from a part of the audience, but the recent act of participating in the maid ceremony has led many to question his commitment.
Currently, opinions on social networks are still divided. Some argue that artists have the right to practice personal beliefs, but others are concerned that a lack of management in spiritual ceremonies could lead to smearing and distorting traditional cultural values. The bronze maid ceremony is not only a religious activity but also a unique cultural feature of Vietnam, which needs to be carried out solemnly, with expertise and understanding of cultural values.
The incident also raises the issue of celebrities' responsibility to preserve their personal image and respect cultural values. Despite having gone through prison and promising to change, Chau Viet Cuong's recent actions have made the public continue to follow his every step.
Chau Viet Cuong booked a show, just bought a billion-dollar car and was immediately suspected of "returning to old habits"?
Minh Lợi15:30:13 09/07/2025Having just reintegrated after a long time serving a sentence, Chau Viet Cuong was suddenly called out on social networking forums. The reason was because in a photo appeared a man who was said to be the male singer born in 1978.
