In recent days, transgender artist Cat Tuyen has unexpectedly become the center of attention on social media after being attacked by some netizens.
The reason is believed to stem from her inviting singer Hong Phuong - the granddaughter of the late artist Vu Linh - to perform in the fairground lottery troupe.
Previously, in an interview, Hong Phuong mentioned Cat Tuyen when talking about her senior colleague introducing her as "Vu Linh's niece." According to Hong Phuong, this way of referring to her stemmed from the perspective of a colleague who had worked alongside her in the profession, and Cat Tuyen understood her family circumstances well. However, this statement inadvertently dragged Cat Tuyen into online controversies, with some opinions suggesting that "understanding the family circumstances well" meant the singer was siding with Hong Phuong in the disputes related to the artist Vu Linh's estate after his death.
Following the recent wave of discussion, Cat Tuyen recently spoke out in a personal livestream to clarify the situation. The singer stated that inviting Hong Phuong to perform stemmed entirely from a professional connection and was not related to any personal matters. According to Cat Tuyen, she met Hong Phuong through an introduction from singer Hoang Dang Khoa, who had sung for her troupe for many years.
During the online chat, Cat Tuyen frankly shared: "I have to admit Hong Phuong sings well. I invited her to sing without any reservations; my younger colleague, Hoang Dang Khoa, has sung for me for many years. Khoa and I are close friends; Khoa initiated the opportunity, so I invited her to sing, but why is she suddenly cursing me?"
The female singer also affirmed that she was not involved in any controversies related to Hong Phuong's family. Cat Tuyen said: "I don't care about netizens, I invited her because I felt fortunate to have the opportunity. When Mr. Linh passed away, I attended the funeral quietly. At that time, I spoke with Hong Phuong. I didn't listen to anyone else who told me to invite her. Phuong sings so well that the audience wouldn't let her in, so they requested that I invite her."
Cát Tuyền also expressed her wish that viewers shouldn't let stories on social media get too carried away from the essence of the issue. According to her, helping each other is normal in the profession, especially when seeing colleagues in difficulty. The singer added: "People should stop getting caught up in drama. I feel sorry for those who are in dire straits. God is the judge of who is right and who is wrong. If I see someone who is helpful, I'll invite them. If I can help someone in the profession, I'll help them."
Besides talking about Hong Phuong, Cat Tuyen also mentioned her relationship with artist Binh Tinh and singer Nhat Minh. She said that she maintains a normal attitude towards both of them despite their past personal controversies. The female singer believes that romantic relationships or marriages are private matters and do not affect how she treats her colleagues.
"I invited Hong Phuong, and I consider Binh Tinh and Nhat Minh all my younger siblings. The same goes for Nhat Minh; whether he breaks up with someone or is dating someone else, I don't care. I'll invite whoever they want. Binh Tinh is my ex-husband's younger sister, and she's also a younger sister to Chinh Nhan, and Nhat Minh is also a younger colleague in the industry. I invite my siblings, but how they live their lives is their business. Artists are also ordinary people, as long as they don't live wrongly. I don't interfere," Cat Tuyen said.
In the entertainment industry, Cat Tuyen is known as one of the first transgender singers in Vietnam.
The singer has been married more than once, but her most notable marriage was to the late cải lương (traditional Vietnamese opera) artist Chinh Nhân in 2008. The wedding received significant attention from the public and the media. However, after about six months of marriage, they decided to separate. Following this marital upheaval, Cát Tuyền moved to the United States to settle down and continue her singing career.
Allegations surface that Hong Phuong hired fans to give her $5,000, then sold unsold tickets for only 500,000 VND?
