The solar storm on December 7 suddenly became a highly sought-after topic when many people were concerned that this phenomenon could affect Vietnam. Although the sun is "calming down", experts still warn of the possibility of a mild geomagnetic storm today.
The solar storm on December 7 is making many people curious when related keywords suddenly climb to the top of the search. In just a few hours, social networks have burst with a series of questions: "Is it dangerous?", "Is Vietnam affected?", "Is there an aurora?". This interest comes from the fact that the sun has been quite active over the past time, constantly erupting and creating many outbreaks that make scientists have to watch closely.
However, according to EarthSky.com, the sun in recent days has suddenly "cooled down". Flare activity dropped to low levels, and the strongest event was only a C6.5 burst from the AR4299 sunspot, which was considered mild and had no significant impact on space. However, this does not mean that everything has been completely quiet. On the surface of the sun, there are still many complex regions that can explode at any time. The three sunspots AR4294, AR4296 and AR4298 are constantly emitting jets and plasma streams. Most of the material falls back into the sun, but a small portion escapes, creating signals that scientists must continue to monitor.
Meanwhile, the earth is still being affected by high-speed solar winds, ranging from 600 to 700 kilometers per second. This causes the magnetic environment around the earth to sometimes fall into a state of instability, creating conditions for small geomagnetic storms to form.
The most interesting thing is the forecast for December 7. Experts say a weak coronal eruption ( CME ) that occurred on Dec. 4 could reach Earth later today. If this happens, the earth could experience G1-level geomagnetic storms â the mildest but still enough to produce auroras in near-polar regions. This phenomenon may last until December 8, although the possibility of the aurora borealis appearing widely is considered quite low.
So is Vietnam affected? The answer is almost insignificant. As a general rule, areas closer to the poles will be hit harder when a magnetic storm occurs. Vietnam is located near the equator, so small storms like G1 hardly affect daily life. People don't need to worry about electronic equipment or communication signals being interrupted today.
However, with stronger solar storms, the impact could spread across the globe, including Vietnam. At that time, telecommunications systems, GPS, satellite television or communication signals may malfunction in a short time. Some experts also reminded that strong magnetic storms can affect people who use health support devices such as pacemakers, although the likelihood of a major storm at this time is very low.
The online community's interest in solar storms also shows the psychology of being both worried and curious about rare natural phenomena. Many people shared that although it sounds scary, the solar storm makes them excited because of the opportunity to see the aurora borealis â something that is only seen in movies. However, most agree that the most important thing is still to update information from reputable scientific sources, avoid being confused by rumors spreading online.
As the sun enters a period of intense activity, phenomena such as CME or magnetic storms will appear even more frequently. Therefore, it is essential to follow and properly understand the nature of the event. As for Vietnam, at least for today, people can rest assured: the 7.12 solar storm is just a "light wind" from space, not significantly affecting daily life.
