According to Sohu, actress Bai Lu is a special case, maintaining a lasting relationship with her assistant for a decade – something considered quite rare in the Chinese entertainment industry.
Statistics cited by Sohu show that the rate of staff leaving Bai Lu's team is only about one-fifth of the industry average. While many stars change assistants or teams after becoming famous due to work pressure or higher professional demands, Bai Lu chose to stick with her partner from the very beginning, through difficult times.
That special person is her assistant, Hehe, who has been by the actress's side since before she became famous. Over the past 10 years, their relationship has gradually transcended the usual "boss-employee" dynamic, becoming a close friendship that Bai Lu herself once called "a family member I chose."
In January 2026, the story of the two once again attracted attention when Li Auto confirmed that Bai Lu had bought her assistant a new car as a gift. The gift was worth approximately 200,000–300,000 yuan, equivalent to hundreds of millions of Vietnamese dong.
However, according to many in the industry, this gift is not simply a year-end bonus between artists and staff. For Bai Lu and Hehe, it's more like a commemorative gift for their 10-year journey together, filled with challenges.
Interestingly, the actress used her real-name account, "Bai Mengyan," to order the car. When the car dealership staff contacted her to confirm the order, they had no idea that the person on the other end of the line was a famous celebrity.
This discreet approach has led many to comment that it's quite similar to the friendship between Bai Lu and Hehe: no flashy media strategy, no deliberate public image building, but simply a genuine bond between two people.
Their story began in 2018, when Bai Lu was still struggling to find her place in the entertainment industry. At that time, Hehe was working as a kindergarten teacher in Nanjing with a salary of about 3,000 yuan per month.
Just because of one sentence from Bai Lu: "Come and live with me, I'll take care of you," Hehe decided to quit her stable job to follow her friend to Hengdian – considered the "film studio capital" of China.
Their first few months were not easy. The two girls lived in a cramped 10m² room in a damp basement. The walls were always so wet you could wring water out of them, and at night they could hear rats scurrying around. Simple meals of instant noodles were commonplace back then.
During this period, Hehe took on almost every role surrounding Bai Lu: from personal assistant, photographer, videographer, clip editor to managing her daily life. Fans even jokingly said that she "worked like an entire studio all by herself."
To ensure Bai Lu had nutritious meals, Hehe even learned to cook and often stayed up until early morning in the kitchen. Even when she cut her hand while cooking, she rarely complained.
After her career gradually took off, Bai Lu also sought ways to repay her long-time friend. Once, upon discovering that the company had only booked economy class tickets for her assistant, the actress immediately paid for a first-class upgrade herself.
Despite their close friendship, the two inevitably have disagreements. However, whenever a conflict arises, Bai Lu is usually the one to take the initiative to make peace, even sending Hehe a "gift" as a way to ease the tension.
The actress also opened an unlimited payment account for her assistant to use when needed. In addition, she always remembers Hehe's little preferences, from her favorite foods to surprise gifts on special occasions.
In 2025, to celebrate their 10th anniversary of knowing each other, Bai Lu posted an old photo on Weibo of the two of them sitting in front of their old basement room, eating instant noodles together. Soy sauce was smeared on the corners of their mouths, but their eyes still shone brightly.
The caption "All those years of hard work were worth it" quickly climbed to the top of trending topics, touching the hearts of many.
According to Sohu, there's an "unwritten rule" in the entertainment industry: many artists change assistants because they fear the assistants know too many secrets. Assistants witness even the artist's most vulnerable moments, and if the relationship breaks down, it can become risky.
Nevertheless, Bai Lu chose to trust them. She even rejected assistants who were introduced with impressive resumes, such as those who knew eight languages or had better contract negotiation skills.
For her, what matters is not "perfect" ability, but the person who has been with her through the most difficult times.
On the occasion of their 10th anniversary, Hehe also wrote on social media: "Sometimes I feel like having a friend like you is like winning the lottery. I can't imagine what my life would be like without you."
Bai Lu then responded under the post: "Psychologists say that if a friendship lasts more than 7 years, it can last a lifetime."
